Our History
Seattle Education Foundation History
The Foundation House at Bothell is an extension of the original mission of the Seattle Education Foundation, originally formed as the Seattle Education Auxiliary in the late 1920’s, when the Seattle Education Auxiliary assumed the responsibility for operating the Ida Culver Retirement Home for former school employees. Ida Culver, a long-time Seattle Public Schools teacher, had provided housing opportunities in her own home for those in need of a place to live. In the late fifties, a facility was planned, developed, and built in Seattle’s Ravenna District to meet the growing need for housing for retirees. For over thirty years the Ida Culver Home, owned and operated by the auxiliary, provided gracious retirement living for school employees and their relatives in a quiet residential neighborhood. Today, the Foundation House proudly carries on this tradition.
The Seattle Education Foundation is incorporated as a not for profit 501(c) (3) organization and functions to serve two primary objectives:
1. To provide general support and financial assistance to retired Seattle educational personnel to help them meet their housing needs.
2. To provide financial assistance (grants) to teachers, administrators, or schools for projects that will enhance the quality of educational programs in the Seattle Public Schools.
The general membership of Seattle Education Foundation is approximately 500 retired and active Seattle School District employees. The Board of Directors of Seattle Education Foundation is comprised of active and retired members of the Seattle Public Schools.
The Board of Directors of Seattle Education Foundation welcomes you to explore and experience the Foundation House at Bothell, where we are dedicated to providing a rich environment for retirees who remain young at heart. |
